Installation and Performance Standards

The MCS Solar PV Installation Standard (MIS 3002)

MIS 3002 prescribes the required pre-sale, design, installation, commissioning, handover and maintenance requirements for all grid connected domestic solar PV installations in the UK. This is to be followed by all MCS accredited installers and for all MCS accredited installations. It aligns with the IET Code of Practice for Grid Connected Solar Photovoltaic Systems. The MCS Battery Storage Standard (MIS 3012)

Codes of Practice

IET Code of Practice for Electrical Energy Storage Systems

This Code of Practice sets out the requirements for the design, specification, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of all electrical energy storage system installed in the UK. It is aimed at ensuring safe, effective and competently installed battery systems – including domestic and commercial systems.

Performance Estimation

The MCS Guidance Note on Determining the Electrical Self-Consumption of Domestic Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installations with and without Electrical Energy Storage (MGD 003)

MGD 003 outlines the method for estimating the self-consumption (energy saving potential) of domestic solar installations with and without electrical energy storage. It considers a range of factors associated with a domestic installation such as electrical demand, the PV installation and user behaviour. The Solar Home Calculator is compliant with this guidance note and all MCS standards.

RECC Best Practice for Energy Storage

The Renewable Energy Consumer Code provide guidance for installers considering selling or marketing battery energy storage systems. This is important to follow to minimise the chances of misleading consumers in any way.
